From the onset of John's symptoms, he's undergone a significant struggle in adjusting and searching for answers. Immediately, he began his own personal research on F.A., determined to seek out information about experimental treatment and proactive solutions. He even strengthened his commitment to stay in top physical shape by working-out at the gym five days a week.
Many people could look at such a diagnosis as the beginning of the end; but for John, it was the beginning of a fight for life. Many could look at his prognosis and reflect the gloomy outlook in their spirit; but John courageously holds onto his identity, rather than letting a disease identify him. Each morning John stands upright in the face of death and he chooses to march onward; this alone is a triumphant declaration of independence, a signal of victory over the disease. F.A. has not, and never can get the best of John. John's example and spirit are his gifts to all of us. His example is heroic, and his spirit inspired this mission.
